China to Make Law Combating Internet-related CrimesA draft on a decision to maintain Internet safety issued by the State Council has stipulated a series of specific measures to combat Internet crimes and illegal activities.The draft was submitted to the Standing Committee of National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, for deliberation Monday. In his presentation on the draft during the 18th session of NPC Standing Committee, Yang Jingyu, director of the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council, said that it is of vital importance to make a law to ensure Internet safety, regulate orders on the Internet and protect legitimate rights of Internet companies and surfers. According to Yang, over 20 Internet-related crimes have been discovered in China. As the present Criminal Law covers these crimes, the draft just focuses on stipulating some specific applications of Criminal Law. The draft also demands the Internet companies take steps to combat crimes and stop harmful information on the Internet. They should inform the police or other related departments when discovering crimes or harmful information on the Internet. |
