Chinese Team Achieves First Goal in 11th Paralympic Games

The 11th Paralympic Games at Sydney have finished 1/3 till October 22. Zhao Jihua, press officer of the Chinese delegation, said October 22 that the Chinese team ranks second by winning 28 medals including 14 golds and that they have confidence in wining more golds than last Games' 16 golds.

Zhao said, irrespective of the fact that the Chinese team ranks second currently and has strength to win more golds, difficulties and stern tests still challenge Chinese athletes in coming events for the opponents have had a greater strength than before.

Zhao said no stimulant tests on Chinese athletes have turned out positive so far. The Chinese athletes still have to try their best to avoid taking stimulants by mistake in later events.

When talking about the annulling of Li Dongmei's discus throw title, Zhao said, after confirming athletes' physical grades before the Games, the International Paralympic Games Committee will keep on observing athletes' body functions in training and competitions. For Li Dongmei can turn her waist in the competition, she was re-graded and her gold was annulled. The Chinese delegation fully understood that the Organization Committee made such a decision for keeping the Game a fair play.
