Western China to Develop Information Industry: Experts

Western China should accelerate the development of the information industry to push forward the upgrading and restructuring of its local industry, experts attending the Western Forum of China said Sunday in Chengdu.

Wu Cheng, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that development of the IT industry is a solution to the problem of a lack of competitiveness in conventional industries in western China.

A representative of the Swedish company Ericsson said that western China should develop an effective telecommunication infrastructure so as to win the support of overseas investors.

Guo Wei, senior vice president of the Legend Group of China, said that the high-tech company is eager to cooperate with local enterprises to improve the application of information technology and provide information services for the development of the western part of China.

Zhang Chaoyang, president of the Chinese Internet company Sohu.com, said that the western part of China should develop a fair competition environment for all enterprises instead of giving preferential treatment to specific groups.

Song Ruhua, chief executive officer of the Top Group of China, said that western China needs to attract personnel, who are specialized in IT. He expressed the belief that the adoption of information technology in conventional enterprises in the region will greatly improve their competitiveness and expand the local IT market.
