Japan Welcomes Albright's Pyongyang Visit

The Japanese government on Monday welcomed a visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) by U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and expressed the hope that the visit will have a good effect on Japan's talks on normalizing ties with the DPRK.

"We welcome the continuation of positive developments" between the U.S. and the DPRK, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hidenao Nakagawa told a press conference.

Tokyo and Pyongyang are scheduled to hold their next round of negotiations on normalizing diplomatic ties later this month in Beijing.

Albright arrived in Pyongyang on Monday morning for a two-day historic visit to the DPRK.
