Beijing Seeks More Cooperation with Foreign Companies: Beijing Mayor

Beijing Mayor Liu Qi met Monday with Thierry Breton, chairman of the French Thomson Group, and said Beijing is seeking more cooperation with foreign companies in broader fields.

Liu said the electronic information industry has been set as a priority development area in the city during the capital's 10th Five-Year Plan (2001--2005) period. Beijing is willing to work in close cooperation with world-famous information industry companies like Thomson, he added.

Breton, who is accompanying French president Jacques Rene Chirac on a China tour, promised that his company would invest more in Beijing, especially in participating in the development of Beijing's information industry.
