English World Press Inaugurated
English World has lately been separated and to run the publication well to meet challenges pending China's WTO entry there has also been independently inaugurated the English World Press from the Commercial Press with a history of more than 100 years.
With this are also over 100 similar others - key periodicals and magazines of social sciences having been made market-oriented and let to take their own course of development in China.
English World has been a publication for English learning published as the first of its kind in China in 1981. Carrying on pieces from classics dealing with literature, philosophy, biographies, science, law and diplomacy, put out in a bilingual English-Chinese form, it has won great repute for its high quality editorial work and has been granted "State 100 Key Publications of Social Sciences Award" in 1998 and 199l. On top of these, it has also by its task set about introducing Western civilization to Chinese readers and making China's achievements and its opening and reform known to the world people.
Apart from being widely circulated at home, English World also enjoys a wide readership in over a dozen foreign countries and regions including UK and the US and those in Southeast Asia.
