Two Golds, One Bronze in Paralympic Powerlifting for China in Sydney

Chinese athletes won two gold medals and one silver in the inaugual women's Paralympic powerlifting competitions at the Sydney 2000 Games Saturday in Sydney.

Women's powerlifting has been listed as a medal sport in the Sydney Games for the first time in the Paralympic history.

China's world record holder Bian Jianxin won the 40kg category with a third-attempt lift of a new world record weight of 102.5kg. Bian had broken her own world record of 97.5kg during her two earlier attempts, with 98kg and 100kg respectively.

Fu Taoying took the 56kg category event with a second-attempt lift of 120kg, which broke the four-month-old world record of 100kg held by Russian Tamara Podpalnaja.

And Fu's teammate Zhang Xia won the bronze medal in the 48kg cetegory with a lift of 95kg.
