Chinese Skaters Dominate Women's 1,500m in Season-Opening Race

Chinese skater Yang Yang won the gold medal in two minutes 24.812 seconds in the women's 1,500 meters Friday at the season-opening Husk ISU Short Track speedskating in Calgary, Canada.

Her compatriot Yang Yang (name in English spelling) took the silver in 2:24.885. Min-Kyung Choi of South Korea captured the bronze in 2:24.926.

In the men's 1,500 meters, Apolo Anton Ohno of the United States won the gold in 2:15.977. Four-time world champion Marc Gagnon of Canada took the silver in 2:16.291. Bruno Loscos of France was third in 2:16.291.

Some 130 skaters from 19 countries are in Calgary competing Friday through Sunday in the opening race of the eight-month season.
