China Strengthens Edge Sea Study

China will focus on edge sea study and hopes to produce relevant research results in the next five years.

According to an academic conference held here recently, Chinese scientists will try to unveil the relationship between the evolution of edge sea and the formation of natural resources, which is vital to boosting China's oceanic industry.

They will also try to discover the rock layer structure of edge sea area as well as the force behind the evolution.

China's edge sea area includes the South China Sea and the East China Sea.

Scientists said that in-depth study of China's edge sea and sea resources is a prerequisite for China to safeguard its oceanic rights and benefits.

The edge sea study has been listed as a key elementary research program of the country and will enjoy financial support from the state, official sources said.
