Home Appliance Producer Eyes Robot Production

Haier, one of China's leading home appliance producers, has chosen to produce robots as its main product in the future.

Zhang Ruimin, chief executive officer of Haier, said recently that robot production will take up such an important role in Haier as to help rank it as one of the world's 500 largest corporations.

Starting as a foreign joint venture 20 years ago, Haier is now a solely owned Chinese company. Haier is so successful in domestic and in west European market that it has become somewhat a symbol of China's national industry.

This time, Haier has chosen Ha'erbin Industrial University, China's first robot researcher, as its technical partner.

So far, the 63 robots produced by Haier has already been used for manufacturing industries. Application of these robots not only saved manpower, but helped raise product quality considerably.
