Online Auction of Masterpiece of Xu Beihong

Masterpieces of Xu Beihong, well-known Chinese painter, will be auctioned online between November 1 and 7.

Bidders from all over the world have the chance to purchase the oil masterpiece Yugong Yishan, which could be paraphrased as Fatheaded Old Man Removing Hill, on the official website of Guardian Online-Commerce Co. Ltd., www.guaweb.com.

Lu Ang, Guaweb's chief executive officer, encouraged domestic collectors to compete with overseas counterparts in purchasing the oil painting.

Xu completed the painting during his tour in India in 1940.

In 1945, Xu presented the painting to a friend who took it overseas.

At Sotheby's auctions in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in 1999, a collector surnamed Xiao bought the treasure.

Together with Cable & Wireless HK Telecom (CWHKT) and Soft Bank China Venture Capital (SBCVC), China Guardian Auctions Co. Ltd. invested in the online auction house.
