Guizhou Province Sets Development Emphasis

Guo Shuqing, deputy governor of southwest China's Guizhou Province, said Friday that his province has set six major points of development in the coming five years.

He made the above remarks at the ongoing West Forum of China which opened today in this capital city of west China's Sichuan Province.

Guizhou will complete its integrated transport system of highway, railway, airport, and freshwater lakes by 2005. The province will also build an infrastructure system for public service in 2001. Protecting the environment has also been listed at the top of the provincial government working agenda.

Efforts will also be made to support pillar industries in the province, said the deputy governor, adding that overall education level must be improved in the next five years.

The province will accelerate the reform of State-owned enterprises, and help more farmers get out of poverty.
