Sino-French Workshop on Network, New Material Technology Closes

The four-day Sino-French workshop on network and New Material technology closed in Beijing Thursday with a joint communique calling for more scientific exchanges between the two countries.

Present at the workshop were 15 young scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and 15 young researchers from the Academy of France.

They exchanged ideas and views on frontier subjects in such fields as nanometer system and nanometer manufacturing technology.

According to the communique, the research organizations plan to hold a workshop on new energy.

Lu Yongxiang, CAS President, said that international cooperation and exchange in scientific research has been a must for countries to face challenges in the coming century.

He said that new and high technology research and industries featuring biotechnology, new material, information technology have been changing rapidly.

In a letter to President Lu, Jacque Lions, president of the Academy of France, said about the workshop and another workshop conducted in May on human genome, that they represent a new level of cooperation in frontier sciences.
