Shanghai to Implement International Product Standards

By 2010 Shanghai's main industrial products will be manufactured in accordance with international standards or foreign advanced standards of quality for the early of the 21st century, a deputy mayor said.

The goal, made legitimate in Shanghai Product Quality Revival Plan, was set for China's impending entry to the World Trade Organization, Jiang Yiren, deputy mayor, said at a quality conference.

The quality of 70 percent of Shanghai's key industrial products has reached the international level in 1990s, with over 9,500 key industrial products adopting international standards or foreign advanced standards. The city's 2,000 enterprises passed quality system authentication and about 4,000 products passed product quality authentication.

Shanghai Auto Industry Group ushered in foreign advanced quality management methods used in multinational corporations.

The group's 37 products realized "zero flaw" product supply, and four group enterprises were granted National Quality and Efficiency Awards.

Meanwhile, the city stresses to crackdown on counterfeit products, destroying 3,000 operations making or selling fake goods. A total of 1 billion yuan (120.5 million U.S. dollars) worth products were confiscated in recent years.
