Multinationals Tap IT Industry in the West

Relevant information shows at least 25 renowned multinationals have invested in the electronics and information industry in Western China.

According to the preparatory office for Western Forum, more than 20 world IT giants including Microsoft, Intel, IBM and Motorola will send representatives to attend China Western Forum which is to be held tomorrow in a bid to look for cooperation opportunities.

Companies such as Siemens and Ericsson earlier invested mainly in the production of communication facilities in western central cities like Chengdu and Chongqing. With the concrete step marching in the west development, the antenna of these companies have been extended to the deep level of information industry.

Utilizing local talent resources to boost the locality of software technology is one of the important strategies for multinationals to exploit IT market in the west. IBM has set up wide cooperation with key universities in Chengdu, Chongqing and Xi'an by way of financial aid. The company has invested more than US$20 million to build up a large-scale software development platform for local professional technical people. In addition, IBM is being in talks with one of China's biggest software manufacturers Top Software for cooperation. (Panorama)
