Six Academic Achievements Awarded
Six academic achievements Friday gained top academic awards from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), with top prize winners being granted 40,000 yuan (some US dollars 4,800) each.
The prize-winning achievements also include 38 pieces awarded the second prize and 87 awarded the third prize. The works consisted of academic books, thesis papers, research reports, compiled ancient books, lexicons and popular reading materials.
The six top-prize winning academic achievements are Trade Balance Between China and Foreign Countries from 1895 to 1936 by Chen Zhengping, Highest Decision Making of the Soviet Union in 70 Years by Xing Guangcheng, On Intellectual Property by Zheng Chengsi, Linguistic Boundary and No Boundary by Shen Jiaxuan, Weiyang Palace of Chang'an City in the Han Dynasty by Liu Qingzhu, and Research on Philosophy and Logic by Zhang Qingyu. They reflect the latest academic advancement by Chinese social scientists.
At the award giving ceremony, Li Tieying, CASS president, said that theoretical innovation will lead to a flourish of academic researches in social sciences. Meanwhile, the CASS must establish a full set of appraisal mechanisms for encouraging achievements, said Li, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
The achievements were selected from 1,704 books, 13,975 thesis papers, 2,687 research reports and other works published from 1995 and 1998.
Moreover, the CASS gave monetary help to other 43 achievements, including Lexicon of Dialects of Modern Chinese, which have been honored by the central government and ministries.
The CASS began to choose excellent academic achievements in 1993.
