Xi'an Wins Bids for US "Digital Earth" Project
The airborne digital mapping result, obtained in some districts and counties of the Tennessee State of the United States and submitted by the Xi'an Modern Coal Airborne Ground Mapping Engineering Co., recently passed the acceptance check of the Geo-data Co. of the United States and was highly appraised by the US side. It is the first time that China's mapping technology has entered the American market. The bid-winning project is another large international mapping project undertaken by the Xi'an Coal Airborne Mapping Engineering Co. by relying on its high and new technological advantages following the national land management airborne mapping project of Brazil and the eastern and western railway airborne mapping project of Hong Kong.
According to the agreement, the two sides of China and the United States will use the latest airborne digital mapping technology researched and developed by the Xi'an Coal Airborne Ground Mapping Engineering Co. to jointly complete the US government-invested land GPS aerial survey and the GIS system engineering project in five years. these projects are the ground work done by the United States in order to realize the "Digital Earth" macro strategy.
At present, the work concerning technological exchange and operational document standardization has been concluded. In the experimental process of the project, the mapping company adopted the most advanced airborne digital mapping technology, submitted the full digital products, "3S" and "4D" obtained from some counties and regions of Tennessee State, and used for the first time network transmission technology to conduct the delivery of data information and products, thereby making a new breakthrough in the application of mapping technology in the internet. Sources say that the airborne mapping projects in 95 counties of Tennessee State have entered the stage of all-round implementation. Other projects are also being carried out smoothly.
The Xi'an Coal Airborne Ground Mapping Engineering Co. is China's first mapping enterprise that has realized geographical information industrialization as well as the only large geographical information industrial base in China. Experts have commented that the conclusion of such a sizeable, long-term cooperative contract with the United States is rarely seen in China. The smooth implementation of the package contract signed by Xi'an company with the US side demonstrates that China's airborne digital mapping technology has taken its place in the front ranks of the world.
