Great Potentiality for Chinese Traditional Medicine Industry

China's medcine industry bears great potential in the coming 21st century, said Wang Guoli, general manager in China National Group Corporation of Medicine in 2000 Chinese Forum.

Together with information technology and biologic technique, medicine industry is a newborn industry known by the world, and how to embrace the opportunities and challenges, emphasis on the intense world competition, is registered the most important issue.

Last year, the capacity to the medicine market rose to US$20 billion with export and import volume of US$5.52 billion while the output is 337,000 tons with 8,000 categories, according to Wang.

The integrative course for the world medicine market has come into being, of which the biological medicine is on the top. In contrast to the developed countries, China medicine industry is out of maturity and the China's WTO membership gives impetus to this industry.

In addition, globalization of Chinese herbal medicine has rendered the China the largest market to the consuming to the Chinese medicine as well as wild herbal medicine.

As a consequence, the multinational corporations adjust their strategies to China by the registering of more than 40 catrgories wild herbal medicine, which have impact on China traditional ones. On the other hand, it will enable the traditional Chinese medicine to upgrade themselves.

At the threshhold to WTO, medicine enterprises should make reforms and innovation, pool talents and build up strength in a move to stage upon the international medicine market.
