CPPCC Vice Chairman Meets Business Leaders from Hong Kong and Taiwan

Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met Thursday morning with business leaders from Hong Kong and Taiwan here a workshop on cross-Straits trade, which inaugurated Wednesday.

During the meeting, Wang Zhaoguo, who is also head of United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, extended a warm welcome to the Taiwan and Hong Kong business leaders headed by Hsui Sheng-Fa and Herbert Liang Hui-Ying.

Wang hailed the role the workshop played in strengthening economic and trade exchange and cooperation across the Taiwan Straits, saying that the workshop will be successful in evaluating the impact of China's entry into WTO.

Wang also informed the guests on the Proposal of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee of the 10th Five-Year Plan (2001-2005) for National Economic and Social Development, pointing out that the proposal will provide more business opportunities for Taiwan and Hong Kong businessmen.

Wang concluded his meeting by urging the guests to contribute more to the reunification of the motherland and to economic and trade cooperation cross the Taiwan Straits.

Jing Shuping, vice chairman of CPPCC and also chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), attended the meeting together with other senior officials.

The workshop, co-sponsored by the ACFIC and chambers of industry and commerce from Taiwan and Hong Kong, was initiated in 1994, and has since been held once a year. The workshop has been welcomed by businessmen from the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
