Four State Heads Not to Attend Seoul ASEM for Domestic Political Schedules

Four state heads recently informed that they will not appear at the upcoming third Asia Europe Meeting in Seoul, gathering of 26 leaders of Asian and European states, citing domestic political schedules, an official of the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Tuesday.

'We expected that all of the 26 state heads will take part but it will be difficult for leaders of Belgium and Greece as well as the Philippine and Vietnamese leaders to visit South Korea for their domestic political schedules,' the official said. 'The case is not certain at the moment for the case of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahatir bin Mohamad.'

Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Louis Michel and Greek Foreign Minister Elisavet Papazoi will attend the Seoul ASEM in place of Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt and Greek Premier Constantinos Simitis respectively.
