Canadian Drama to debut in Beijng Later This Month

China's Central Experimental Theatre is staging the Canadian drama "The Monument" for a month from the end of October.

It is the first Canadian drama to be shown in China and it's being performed in Chinese.

The Canadian playwright Colleen Wagner, who was inspired by the war in Bosnia and its violent aftermath, wrote the play as an examination of crime and redemption.

In "The Monument," a soldier accused of war crimes is unexpectedly saved from execution and later delivered into a life of torment at the hands of a mysterious woman.

The play is being directed by Zha Mingze from the Central Experimental Theatre of China.

Zha Mingze also directed Jean-Paul Satre's existentialist drama " No Exit" in 1998.
