Britain to Open Diplomatic Ties With DPRK

British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook said on Thursday that Britain planned to open diplomatic relations with DPRK for the first time since the creation of the state 50 years ago. Cook told reporters en route to the Asia-Europe ASEM summit in Seoul that Britain would respond positively after receiving an approach from DPRK last month. The development follows peace initiatives between the north and south of the divided peninsula. "We have now received an approach from DPRK to open diplomatic relations. I think it is likely we will respond positively to that... we intend to give a positive response," Cook said. Cook gave no time frame for the move.
