Feature: Hong Kong Ocean Cruise Gains More Popularity

Ocean cruise on SuperStar Leo was an exciting experience for a Taiwan passenger by the surname "Yang" who came to Hong Kong especially for the cruise.

In spite of his old age and having to travel on wheelchair, Yang still enjoyed various entertainment activities on board with his fellow passengers.

He said he also offered the cruise as a special birthday gift to one of his friends and they together were impressed greatly with the travel experience.

Yang and his 17 Taiwanese fellows are among a growing number of passengers keen on the recently popular ocean cruise in Hong Kong.

Operated by Malaysia-based Star Cruises, it becomes a new vogue of traveling for local residents and tourists to Hong Kong as well. Two vessels, SuperStar Leo and Star Pisces, currently serve in Star Cruises' Hong Kong base.

In October, Star Cruises readjusted its seasonal cruise line of SuperStar Leo to China's southernmost city of Sanya on Hainan Island and Halong Bay in north Vietnam.

Toivo Norell, captain of SuperStar Leo, said the readjustment of the cruise line is well fitting the passengers and enables them to enjoy the tourist attractions on land, in addition to the leisure of ocean cruise.

"People come to discover the easy way of traveling with the ship," he said. "The cruise offers them a new travel experience."

Different from traveling by air, cruise passengers can start their vacation as soon as getting on board from Hong Kong, he said.

All activities on board aim to create a marvelous vacation, he said, adding that passengers have a wide range of choices for relaxation, ranging from swimming to dancing and from enjoying cuisine to appreciating classical movies.

The Swedish captain said SuperStar Leo gains increasing popularity from travelers around the world and he sees repeat passengers from time to time.

Some tourists from western countries took the cruise as one of their travel programs in Hong Kong, Norell said, and they flew in Hong Kong, went shopping and took to the ship for relaxation.

Concluding his second cruise on SuperStar Leo, a passenger from Hong Kong expressed his satisfaction with his trip and the high standard of service on board. "It gives me a luxurious travel experience and I enjoy everything on board," he said.
