China International Tourism Fair Opens in Shanghai

The 2000 China International Tourism Fair opened in Shanghai in east China. The fair attracted over 7,000 people from the tourism industry in more than 40 countries and regions, including businessmen from Vietnam, Cambodia, Egypt, Turkey and Finland, who attended the fair for the first time.

With 1,208 show platforms covering a total area of 23,900 square meters, the fair embraced various participants, ranging from administration departments, travel agencies, hotels, airlines, to cruiser companies, conference and exhibition companies, publishers and art troupes.

The first China international tourism fair was held here in 1998. From 2001, the fair will be held annually in Shanghai and Kunming alternatively.

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen attended the opening ceremony.
