Sino-German Research Center Set Up in Beijing

A research center jointly funded by the China National Science Foundation Committee (NSFC) and the German Research Federation was put into use Thursday in Beijing.

Nearly 300 Chinese and German scientists including Ma Songde, vice minister of science and technology and Lu Yongxiang, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the inauguration ceremony of the center.

Scientists from the two countries will participate in a symposium on complexity science, academic meetings and an exhibition on Sino-Germany scientific cooperation in Beijing in the coming week.

Tsung-Dao Lee from the United States and Hartmut Michel from Germany, both of whom are Nobel Prize winners, made reports at today's ceremony.

China and Germany signed an agreement five years ago to establish the research center, aiming at promoting cooperation and exchanges in the field of natural science and providing a sound environment for scientists in the two countries to conduct academic exchanges.
