Moldovan President Meets Senior Chinese Official

Moldovan President Meets Senior Chinese Official
Moldovan President Petru Lucinschi on Thursday held talks with Wei Jianxing, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Wei, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, conveyed greetings from Chinese President Jiang Zemin to Lucinschi.

Friendly cooperation has kept developing in various fields between China and Moldova since they established diplomatic relations eight years ago, said Wei, who arrived in Chisinau from Germany on Wednesday.

Wei, also a member of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat, said that the joint statement signed by Lucinschi and Jiang during his trip to China this June will surely advance the two countries' relations into a new stage of development.

He also expressed appreciation for Moldova's efforts in abiding by its one-China policy.

Lucinschi recalled his China visit and his meeting with Jiang.

He said that Moldova will implement in earnest the documents signed by the leaders of the two countries.

The Moldovan government and people admire China's achievements in its reforms and are deeply interested in China's experience in its modernization drive, he said.

Lucinschi reiterated Moldova's firm support for the one-China policy, saying Moldova will not have any official contacts with Taiwan.
