Beijing: Favorable for Returned Students from Abroad
Xiao Huiqing, who received his postdoctoral degree in United States at age 44, came back to Beijing recently to open his bio-pharmaceutical company in a local high-tech park for returning students.
More than 80 people like Xiao have also set up shops in the park.
Beijing has been working to create a favorable business climate for returning students. The local government has helped them solve practical problems of running a business on a daily basis along with investment financing. It will continue to offer all-round services to greet Chinese students as they return from abroad.
Since 1997, several industrial parks have been established for returning students to develop their business. Haidian Hi-Tech Park, one of the first established in Beijing for returning students, recorded a trade income of some 100 million yuan (over 12 million U.S. dollars) last year. It is expected that the sum will rise to more than 200 million yuan this year.
In the past 20 years, one-third of nearly 70,000 Beijing residents that went abroad have come back with hi-tech projects, statistics show.
According to a latest survey, some 80 percent of the students that are studying abroad have the intention to return to the motherland, with 60 percent of them choosing Beijing as the desired place.
