Universities Enthusiastic for High-Tech TradingTwenty-six prestigious universities in China have signed about 200 deals worth five billion yuan at the just-concluded Second China High-Tech Fair in Shenzhen, a city neighboring Hong Kong.Yu Youjun, mayor of the city and director of the organizing committee for the fair, said these deals cover information technology, bio-medicine, environmental technology, new materials and other new and high technologies. According to him, China's universities and their research institutes and enterprises have become a major driving force for the development of the high-tech industry. Their deep interest ensured the success of the seven-day fair. Yu described the universities and the enterprises they run as strong support for commercializing scientific and technological achievements in China. Zhang Zhaodong, president of the Founder Group run by the Beijing University, said the company signed a 100-million-yuan agreement today with NBN, an American company, on fingerprint technology research and development.
