Meeting of CPPCC National Committee Standing Committee Ends

The 11th Meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People 's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) came to an end Wednesday in Beijing.

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the closing session which heard a closing speech by Ye Xuanping, a vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.

During the meeting, the participants studied the documents of the just-concluded Fifth Plenary Session of the 15th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and heard a report by Vice Premier Wen Jiabao on the Proposal for Formulating the 10th Five-Year Plan (2001-2005) for National Economic and Social Development adopted by the CPC session.

The participants made proposals and comments on the CPC Central Committee's proposal.

Ye, who also presided over the closing session, said the coming completion of the country's Ninth Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development (1996-2000) marks China's entry into the "well-off" period and called it a new milestone in the history of the Chinese nation.

He hailed the CPC Central Committee session and the proposal and said it has mapped out the blueprints for the country's development in the first five years of the new century.

According to Ye, the CPPCC has organized 14 groups to visit a dozen provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, which resulted in a number of special reports on the formulation of the 10th five-year plan.
