Chinese Short-track Speed Skating Team to Compete in World Cup

The Chinese short-track speed skating team, entrusted with the task of winning the first gold on behalf of China from 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, has left Beijing October 17 for World Cup Short-track Speed Skating to prepare for 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games.

Contests will be held on six contesting grounds, the first in Canada from October 20 to 22. Nine athletes including four women skaters will represent China in the World Cup as is reported..

Lan Li, director of Short-track Department of Winter Management Center, said the purpose of the Chinese team to compete in the World Cup is to be benefited by experience and check up their plateau training result.

The Chinese short-track speed skating team has had its first plateau training in Lanzhou before the World Cup. Some athletes reportedly have not been wholly used to such training and so reacted differently. It goes without saying plateau training is still in a groping period as how to make most of the training by Chinese skaters on the plateau.
