China-UK Forum Second Meeting EndsThe second meeting of the China-UK Forum ended Tuesday afternoon in Beijing.During the two-day gathering, participants from the two countries discussed issues concerning culture, education, environment, technology, finance, law and press, which has helped promote mutual understanding. Participants also put forward valuable suggestions on Sino-British cooperation in such areas. The frank exchange of views on bilateral cooperation is meaningful, said some participants. They also hope for more similar opportunities to conduct dialogues in the years ahead. The forum, a high-level and non-governmental gathering, was initiated by leaders of China and Britain two years ago. The first meeting of the forum was held in London in October last year and Chinese President Jiang Zemin and British Prime Minister Tony Blair addressed the opening ceremony. John Prescott, British Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and Regions, attended the opening ceremony of the forum's second meeting. Addressing the closing ceremony of the meeting, Song Jian, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Former British Deputy Prime Minister Michael Heseltine, co-chairmen of the meeting, also praised the meeting's role in promoting mutual understanding between China and Britain. |
