Chinese Premier Concludes Visit to Japan

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji left Osaka, Japan, from Kansai International Airport for South Korea on Tuesday after winding up his six-day visit.

During the visit, Zhu met with Japanese Emperor Akihito and held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori. They discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties at the meetings.

Zhu and Mori agreed to make efforts to deepen mutual understanding and trust in order to promote the development of friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

The Chinese premier also met with leading political and business figures in Japan. In addition, he had broad contacts with civic organizations and the Japanese people.

Concluding official activities in Tokyo on Monday, Zhu made a trip to Kobe, the capital of Hyogo Prefecture in western Japan by taking the "Nozomi" Shinkansen bullet train.

On Tuesday morning, Zhu viewed the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world. He also visited a museum of the late Chinese revolutionist Sun Yat-sen and a wharf of a Chinese oceangoing firm based in Kobe.

Afterwards, Zhu attended a luncheon hosted in his honor by Hyogo Prefecture Governor Toshitami Kaihara, Kobe Mayor Kazutoshi Sasayama, and two local business groups before leaving for Seoul and the Asia-Europe meeting.
