Shenyang Police Seize Largest-ever Amount of Ecstasy Tablets

A suspect was arrested by railway police on Saturday for carrying some 1,000 ecstasy tablets in Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province.

Police said it is the largest-ever seizure of ecstasy, known in China as "head-rocking pills."

The 26-year-old suspect Li Chenglin was found carrying two packages of a yet-to-be identified white powder, and ten bags of green ecstasy tablets during a routine inspection on express train K92 from Guangzhou, capital city of south China's Guangdong Province, to Shenyang.

Li said that he bought the drugs at seven yuan (0.84 U.S. dollar) per tablet in Guangzhou and intended to take them himself to his hometown Harbin, also in northeast China, via Shenyang.

Police said that the illegal dealing of ecstasy is rampant at some entertaining centers in Shenyang, where the price of a tablet of ecstasy tablets exceeds 20 yuan (2.41 U.S. dollars).
