Chinese, Croatian Military Leaders Hold Talks

The Chinese military is willing to bring the friendly cooperative relations with the Croatia military into the 21st century, said a senior Chinese military officer.

Fu Quanyou, chief of the general staff of the People's Liberation Army, made the remark during talks with Petar Stipetic,chief of the general staff of the Croatian armed forces Monday.

Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that the people of the two countries enjoy a traditional friendship, adding that the bilateral relations have been developing smoothly since the forging of diplomatic ties and the two countries have had fruitful cooperation in various areas.

Fu thanked Croatia for its adherence to the one-China position and support towards China's reunification.

He said that maintaining and developing friendly cooperation between China and Croatia is not only in line with the wish and interests of the two peoples, but also benefits world peace and stability.

The Chinese military attaches great importance to developing its friendship with its Croatian counterpart and is willing to bring the multi-layer, multi-area and all-round friendly cooperation between the two sides into the new century on the basis of mutual respect, mutual benefit and equality, Fu said.

Fu also briefed the guest on China's stance on the current international situation, China's domestic situation, defense policy, and military building.

Stipetic said that Croatia appreciates China's role in the United Nations Security Council and China's proposal of non-interference into the internal affairs of other countries.

He reiterated Croatia's position of supporting China on the Taiwan issue. He said that Taiwan is part of Chinese territory, adding that he hopes China will obtain complete reunification at an earlier date.

He told Fu that he hopes the two militaries will further their friendly exchange in the future.
