Serbian Parties Sign Accord on Transitional Government
After a week of hard negotiations, the three main Serbian parties reached an agreement Monday on forming a transitional government in this Yugoslav republic.
The three parties also agreed to hold an early republican parliamentary election on December 23.
The accord, signed by the Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS), the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), under the witness of Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica and Serbian President Milan Milutinovic, stipulates that a transitional government should be formed in order to rule the parliamentary elections, the Yugoslav news agency Tanjug reported.
Under the deal, the post of the prime minister should come from the SPS, the biggest Serbian parliamentary party, and the DOS and the SPO will share the office of the two deputy prime ministers.
The prime minister will make decisions in consensus with the two deputy prime ministers.
The ministries of the interior, information, justice and finance will be headed by the accord signatory parties, and all decisions will be made by the ministers unanimously.
