Chinese Premier Continues Visit in Japan
Visiting Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji arrived in Kobe from Tokyo on Monday evening to continue his six-day official visit in Japan.
Zhu took the "Nozomi" Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo to Kobe, the capital of Hyogo Prefecture in western Japan, where the Chinese premier will view the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the world's longest suspension bridge.
Before leaving for the western Japanese city, Zhu held a press conference at Japan's National Press Club in Tokyo and answered questions about his visit, Sino-Japanese relations and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Zhu said he had frank and constructive talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori, and that they re-affirmed the three political documents guiding Sino-Japanese relations, their friendly and cooperative partnership and their dedication to peace and development. The two countries agreed to build on the partnership started in 1998.
He noted that the two sides also agreed that current bilateral ties are good and that it is important for the two countries to further deepen understanding and properly handle problems that could jeopardize the development of bilateral relations.
He added that he has had extensive contact with Japan's political parties, business leaders and non-governmental organizations, as well as ordinary citizens.
The Sino-Japanese friendship has a solid foundation and great potential for development, Zhu said.
