Standing Committee of CPPCC National Committee Holds Session

The Standing Committee of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 11th session Monday to discuss the Proposal on the 10th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development (2001-2005) by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The meeting was presided over by Li Ruihuan, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau. Li heard a report on the essence of the proposal by Vice Premier Wen Jiabao, who is a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.

In his speech, Li hailed the proposal as a guideline for China's great march in the new century and as an important document for the Chinese Nation to make historic strides.

Wen, reporting on behalf of the CPC Central Committee, informed the participants on the construction of the proposal. The document contains the wisdom of the Party and opinions from non-CPC figures.

Participants also heard a number of other reports, including one on the dismissal of two former members of the standing committee.
