Russia Ready to Attend Palestinian-Israeli Summit in Egypt: FM

The Russia foreign ministry expressed its readiness Sunday to take part in the Palestinian-Israeli summit in Egypt on an equal footing with other participants.

"In response to the rapidly worsening Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which has seriously complicated the situation in the whole Middle East, Russia, as a co-sponsor of the Middle East peace process, is making most active efforts to normalize the situation. The efforts are being closely coordinated with the U.N. secretary general and representatives from other countries engaged in the intermediary peacekeeping mission," the ministry said in a statement.

The statement urged immediate halt of violence between Israel and Palestine, restoration of dialogues between the two sides as well as political solution to the conflict.

Russia, welcoming any initiatives aimed at attaining these goals as soon as possible, believed that a Palestinian-Israeli summit being prepared in Sharm-al-Sheikh, Egypt, is likely to play an vital role in the peace process, it said.
