Fiesta to Promote Growth

China is planning two national galas in Guangdong Province next year to improve flower production and promote consumption.

The Fifth China Flower Exposition and the Third China Flower Fair, both jointly sponsored by the China Flower Association and Guangdong's provincial government, will be held in Shunde from September 28 to October 7, 2001.

The two events will display the achievements of China's flower industry, promote flower exports and guide domestic flower consumption, said Jiang Zehui, chairwoman of the China Flower Association.

The exposition, covering a total floor space of 98,000 square metres, will display fresh cut flowers, potted plants, ornamental plants and seedlings for afforestation. The fair will be the venue for business negotiations from home and abroad.

Participating companies are expected to come from other parts of China, as well as Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Australia.

Preparations for the fair are progressing smoothly. Construction of the central exhibition hall is under way.

Ever increasing flower consumption as a result of fast improving living standards in the last 20 years has increased domestic production
