Int'l Meeting on Engineering Sciences Closes

The International Conference on Engineering and Technological Sciences ended after four days of discussions in Beijing.

Over 2,200 engineering experts from 30 countries and regions attended the meeting hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering as entrusted by the Council for Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS), an international organization that groups about 30 national academies.

Following the opening plenary session, the conference was later held in eight sessions focusing on advanced manufacturing and vehicle technology, information technology in the 21st century, advanced materials, energy strategy and technology for sustainable development, civil engineering, technological innovation and sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, and bio-chip technologies.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin made a speech at the plenary session on October 11 at the Great Hall of the People on the role of engineers and the engineering and technological sciences.

The four-day conference was described as a great success by participants from both home and abroad.

Jaakko Ihamuotila, chairman of the Finnish Academies of Technology and also Vice-President of the CAETS, was quoted today by Xuan Zengpei, secretary-general of the organizing committee of the conference, as saying the Beijing meeting has overshadowed all the followers.

The Finnish academy is scheduled to host the next International Conference on Engineering and Technological Sciences.
