Hi-Tech Punctuates Tomorrow's Human Life
Visitors at the on-going Second China Hi-Tech Fair in this south China city bordering Hong Kong were in consensus about the view that human life in the future will be in close correlation with high technology.
Standing outside the fair's exhibition hall is a microbial toilet that saves water, which was developed by the Chinese sub-company to a Japanese company. It needs no water to flush but usesa kind of microbe to decompose human excrement into water and carbon dioxygen.
In the hall, a wide range of high-tech products are on display, like digital TV sets, recyclable plastic boxes, robot tour-guides, colored cotton, video mobile phones and perceptual computers.
There are four brands of China-made brand high definition TV sets that show digital TV programs produced and transmitted for the fair.
For the coming Spring Festival in early 2001, the city will broadcast two hours of digital programs every day, and 12 hours in 2005 when the city will establish its digital TV station, an official from the city's digital TV office said.
"Intelligent House," nicknamed after a home network system, captures the attention of Wan Mingzhen, a private enterprise manager who cares about home safety and management.
She found the high-tech system very helpful in freeing people from trivial housework.
With the aid of the system, homeowners can control house appliances when they are not in. For example, the system could automatically turning on or off the TV set, video tape recorder, air-conditioner and lamp. They can also do on-line shopping, accounting, payment on property management and other financial work.
"High-tech is not far away. It will soon become people's right hand in daily life," said a technician from Sichuan Taitong Intelligence Electric Ware Company who is attending the high-tech fair.
