Chinese Leader Visits Germany

Wei Jianxing, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Saturday began his visit to the State of Lower Saxony in Germany.

Wei, also member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, visited the China exhibition center at the Hanover EXPO 2000, and extended congratulations on the success of the exhibition.

Accompanied by the representative from the German government Ms.Brigit Breuel, Wei also visited the German exhibition center and wrote an inscription for it.

Earlier Saturday, Wei met Minister-President of Lower Saxony Sigmar Gabriel and briefed him on China's reform and open-up, and the just-concluded Fifth Plenary Session of the 15th CPC Central Committee. They also had a friendly conversation on issues of common interest.

Wei arrived here after visiting Dresden of Saxony. During his visit in Dresden, he met Chairman of Saxony Committee of the Social Democratic Party Constanze Krehl, visited Infineon Technologies and a worker's home, and learned about the economic and social development in the eastern areas of Germany.

Wei was accompanied on the visit by Dai Bingguo, member of the CPC Central Committee and head of the committee's International Department, and Zhang Junjiu, member of the CPC Central Committee and vice-president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.
