Barak, Arafat Vow to Reduce ViolencePalestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said Saturday that they would take steps to rein in the violence.This was the further sign of the two leaders to work for peace after they agreed earlier in the day to attend a Mideast summit designed to bring the two leaders together for a possible solution to the two weeks of Palestinian-Israeli conflicts. Palestinian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nabil Sha'ath has said that Israel has agreed to stop opening fire at Palestinians and ease closure on the Palestinian territories. The two weeks of violence have killed over 100 people, mostly Palestinians, and injured more than 3,000 others. Israel sealed off all the Palestinians' towns and cities subsequently. |
