Zhongxin Telecommunications, Xiahua Electronics, Beijing Huahong and Ningbo Bodao, four heavyweights in mobile telecommunication equipment production, declared to co-fund a developing center and jointly explore 2.5 generation mobile phone core technology and products.

The four companies inked a memorandum with US Texas Equipment Co., a world leading company in digital signal processing (DSP) technology.

The 2.5 generation mobile phone, the upgrade of current 2 generation mainly based on sound, can connect with the Internet, dealing with both audio service and multimedia service like images. The transmission rate can reach 384kbs after innovation.

Texas Equipment Co. will provide critical semi-conductor parts, developing facilities and technical consultation under the agreement. While the exploration of core technologies like base software and base chips and its integrated design will be undertaken by the allied center.

The base chip is predicted to be unveiled in the third quarter next year and the 2.5 generation mobile phone will turn out by the same yearend.
