Ningxia Builds High-tech Industrial Zone

Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is building a high-tech industrial zone in Shizuishan and the first phase of infrastructure facilities have been completed.

Upon completion, the zone will mainly develop new materials such as flame retardent materials, permanent magnetic materials and multielement metal.

Dongfang Tantalum Industrial Company, a major enterprise in the zone, now accounts for 80 percent of the domestic market. Its tantalum powder and wires make up 15 percent and 42 percent of the world's market respectively.

It is learned that the sales volume of industrial products from the zone will be more than 4 billion yuan (481.9 million U.S. dollar) by 2005, the pre-tax profit will be 800 million yuan and the earning from exports 400 million U.S. dollars, or four times the current figure.

Shizuishan is a major industrial base in northwest China, with high technology and new materials being the leading industries.
