Sixth China Art Festival Closes in Nanjing

The Sixth China Art Festival, the top art festival in the country, ended Friday night after over two weeks' performances.

Several thousand artists from at home and abroad have done 105 performances in different styles. More than 500 mass cultural entertainment events were held during the art festival.

Pan Zhenzhou, vice minister of Culture, said during the closing ceremony that the art performances embodied the advanced culture in China. The art festival has become a pageant for artists and holiday for ordinary people.

It was reported that over 200,000 audiences watched the performances. About 90 percent of the tickets were sold in all theaters which staged plays during the art festival.

Pan said that the Sixth China Art Festival reflects the plentiful fruits harvested by Chinese artists over the past three years. It represented the highest level of China's artistic creation.

It was announced that the Seventh China Art Festival will be held in east China's Zhejiang Province in 2003.
