Beijing to Save 360 Million cu m of Water Before 2002

Beijing has initiated 26 measures recently to save some 360 million cubic metres of water before 2002, according to the local water conservancy.

The drive will focus on saving daily water consumption, improving the processing capacity of wastewater and making full use of surface and ground water.

By the end of 2002, Beijing is expected to increase its water storing capacity to 180 million cubic metres.

Some of the measures, such as technological rennovation of water saving facilities and construction of water conservancy projects in the mountain areas, are operating at present.

By the end of this year, Beijing will save some 150 million cubic metres of water and increase the water storing capacity to 100 million cubic metres.
