US-funded Chengdu Int'l Conference Center Completed

Construction of the Chengdu International Conference and Exhibition Center, a Sino-US joint project, was completed Friday.

The Western Forum of China will be held at the center from October 20-22, sources said. The forum has so far attracted more than 100 renowned foreign companies.

The 1.4 billion yuan (168.67 million U.S. dollars) project was partly funded by a group company from the California, in the United States.

The project consists of two phases with the first phase of the project being completed three years ago. The California group took up more than 30 percent of the total shares of the first phase of the project and the rest was owned by Chengdu City.

Of the total shares of the just-finished second phase of the project, the US side has 60 percent and Chengdu has 40 percent.

The center has five special conference and exhibition halls with a combined floor space of 60,000 square meters, 480 guest rooms, a 25,000- square-meter modern art center and an opera house with 1,600 seats.
