Beijing's Economy Booming

Statistics released Friday show that Beijing's gross domestic product (GDP) totaled 169.34 billion yuan (20.4 billion U.S. dollars) in the first nine months this year, 11 percent more than in the same period last year.

The industrial sector grew fast as the hi-tech industries, according to the statistics, with the industrial added value amounting to 50.59 billion yuan (6.1 billion U.S. dollars) during the period, up 20.1 percent over the same period last year.

Beijing's agriculture continued to grow despite severe droughts earlier this year, with the total output value increasing to 12.91 billion yuan (1.55 billion U.S. dollars).

The fixed assets investment in Beijing during the January-September period was 65.4 billion yuan (7.88 billion U.S. dollars), a rise of 7.2 percent.

During the period, Beijing's export volume increased some 50 percent.

Beijing also set up 871 new overseas-funded enterprises during the period and signed 2.94 billion U.S. dollars-worth of overseas investment agreements.
