China to Issue 5th Edition of RMB

The People's Bank of China announced Thursday that the second batch of the fifth edition of Renminbi, the Chinese currency, will be issued nationwide starting October 16.

The new issuance will include notes with a face value of 20 yuan, one yuan, and 10 cents.

The 20-yuan note is brown, 145 mm by 70 mm. On the front of the note is a likeness of late Chinese Chairman Mao Zedong, while the reverse features the scenery of Guilin.

The one-yuan coin is in nickel white, with a diameter of 25 mm. Its front bears the Chinese characters of the PBOC, while the flip side features a chrysanthemum.

The 10-cent coin is in aluminum white, with a diameter of 19 mm. It bears Chinese characters for PBOC on one side and an orchid on the other.
